EMT: the urban

Back in May. As mentioned in a previous article , my quest for the Grail was, according to the recommendations, not the Lady of the Lake but my job counselor Pole, through the completion of an EMT (Evaluation Workplace).

Naturally, and especially by ease rather than real curiosity initially is from urban transportation in my town that I addressed. Also, I learned quickly that it is fairly simple to find a company to make an EMT, officials are often happy to get acquainted with future potential conductors. I happened to be confronted with a refusal to make a EMT in other companies for various reasons that were watching, but it has not prevented officials from discussing openly with me a long time and m explain spontaneously working conditions in their business.

The first step was to ask the EMT first paper Pole-job, then go with it in the transport company concerned. I then had the opportunity to discuss quite nicely with the operations manager, who informed me they were just in time for recruitment to train new drivers. Seeing my motivation to get into the carriage of persons, he sent me a file to be completed more quickly, what I have done the same day. I will return in other articles ...

Once completed the first paper by the company, he took it back to center-job to write the agreement EMT per se, then bring it back in the company for signing. It's been quite a journey for not much ;-)

EMT First day!
Arrive 4:45 am at the depot. There are quite a lot of activity in the room where CR (driver-recipients) take their service. A lady is already (or still because I do not know if it ends its service at night or if she just started her day) behind his computer in a small suite of offices. The room contains hundreds of mailboxes used by the company to communicate individually with the CR, a kind of computer terminal, and an impressive amount of posters plastered on every square inch of wall: between deviation notices for works on public roads, reminders of precautions to take and the union propaganda, there is a holy mess! The adjacent room is the lounge with its coffee, its football and sofas.

My tutor arrives. Chic is one tutor. She explains what happens during the service plug. Depending on his schedule, she knows what her service number is LBP. Then you should take the plate (laminated road map) which corresponds to the service. On this figure our daily schedule, with start times to meet at different crossing points and terminals. There is also a barcode that is scanned on the computer terminal mentioned above. Pulls out a ticket with the number of buses allocated to us to start the day (it will change mid-term).

Small walk through the deposit to reach our bus from the 350 it contains, for the most recent equipment and well maintained. Re-chic, ours will bite. Starting the engine is left running by the turn of the vehicle to verify proper operation of fires, leaks and the condition of the tires. It also verifies that the safety devices that prevent the doors from closing on someone working properly (on sensitive or infrared). Then introduced in the module that manages the vane number and bus line. It also introduces into the digital radio the bus number and left on, ready to receive calls from dispatch.

We're finally on and we go to the top of the line moving at a good pace because there is nobody on the road. It's quite nice to be able to appreciate the road capabilities of a bendy bus (18m long) on main roads without stopping. Casually, it grows stronger. There are already some people in first stops that we serve. These customers are still asleep but polite, and they return us our salvation. The sun rises quickly the number of customers increases and towers are linked online.

From a customer view, the day will pass without frills. I see that many people are still polite. There are no passengers openly uncomfortable and the worst that incivility will my tutor be silly to ignore it, headphones on his ears. The 1-2 people who ask their way are very grateful. I am fortunate to live in a city that knows little violence ... I do not think the table is as friendly in Paris, Marseille or Brussels ...

level of driving I realized how important it is forbidden to release the attention of pedestrians crossing without looking, bicycles, delivery men stationed on the road just after a turn around must be good will-nilly, public works, and so on. That said, one could find me masochistic but I do not find it unpleasant, and a priori it seems likely ultimately less painful than staying several hours behind the wheel of a bus touring in a straight line National Highway or to fight against boredom and loss of attention ...
I also understand that driving can be stressful because you really stick to the schedule to the minute, strictly forbidden to leave off in advance (otherwise a warning!). Indeed, a bus leaving in advance means customers must wait for at least the next ten minutes ... whereas delay is usually only 3-4 minutes at most and can catch up. To do this, we sometimes cut corners on the few minutes of flapping which is available at each terminal, but there are other techniques rather surprising that I probably will talk about later.

The day will be an opportunity to discuss working conditions peculiar to their business. It turns out they are excellent for the transport sector. Course schedules can be restrictive because we are led to begin early in the morning to finish later or to cut services. However the 35 hours are in order and relate much more than my previous jobs. But I practiced a trade rather well regarded in an office, etc.. I learn later that the conditions are often quite good in large urban networks. Thus the working day is counted from the beginning to the end of it available for the company, and not from the moment you start driving until you leave the bus at the end of the day as I thought. That is to say that in the 35h of my guardian and his colleagues counted the time to find his plate and the scanner, check for any deviations, test their internal mail ... and even a little chat over a cup of coffee before visiting the car park. It's the same end of the day: paid hours ending some time after leaving the bus ... time to go small acomplir usual formalities and return the deposit if left the bus to a colleague in the end. I am pleasantly surprised by this, because in most of my previous jobs, it was usually paid for the "actual work" even though he was spending time in the company to prepare, check out different components , or otherwise, without compensation!

My tutor, fun and educator, also explained the operation of the schedule. On returning to the company, it is assigned the "worst" times, that is to say that serves mouth-hole and that may be required to complete a service one night and again early The next morning, to cut many services, and not knowing until the last moment what will be the schedule for tomorrow. This period lasts about 3 years. Then it is placed in a schedule coolest of making a week of mornings a week of afternoons a week and cut services. With daily bus lines and different. Finally, after a further period of several years can if desired be "regular" that is to say, be assigned a fixed time on a single line with "his" bus. This tends to become more rare because the CR like to keep the diversity of schedules and lines. And I understand! I do not think not that I would enjoy the monotony of every day do the exact same route at the same times. Moreover, RCs work on alternate Saturdays and one Sunday in eight. All this seems very reasonable ...

Our workday ends around 12:30. We then roughly half the time on a first line and half a second with a twenty minute break and a change of bus in between. Finally, the time has passed quickly. It leaves the bus downtown to another VC who immediately connects with the middle line. We take the shuttle bus company that brings us back to the depot, my tutor is going to make his plate and we go home.

The second day EMT in this endeavor will this time with a tutor, also very friendly and always passionate about his business that for 10 years. Here the service plug is in town to 13h, there is a colleague. The work proceeds in a manner comparable to the previous day, except that we reduce the bus depot at the end of service, to 20.30. In a large company like this one does not need to clean the bus itself: the outside is washed in automatic rollers at the entrance of the deposit, and a team handles the interior cleaning and fair refuel.

Conclusion
After two days I could EMT back and enjoy the diversity of the profession. We see go through all sorts of clients, and has a ringside seat to watch the funny scenes of everyday urban dweller. This experience makes me really want to work for urban transport in my town today, something I never suspected. Indeed I had rather expected a priori to direct me to the coach ... urban transport in the city where I spent my childhood having given me a negative image of the profession that was to drive EMT. I still carried out a second EMT with a bus operator, who is also the subject of an article .

I should mention that besides my tutors, I had the opportunity to talk with lots of VC rest room, and I was delighted to meet a group of people open, friendly, sensitive, cultured and passionate, very far from the cliche of "turner stealing a boorish" as some people think nothing to learn. Some tell me that CR insults are daily, others that they came to be spit on. Seems incredible, never seen it in my life, and given the two services peaceful that I just did. What In any case, the driver of your bus is not furniture, least of all is to respect him as anyone. A "hello" and smile I think are the basic rules you apply when entering a store or restaurant, so why should it be different in the bus?

Funding opportunities

As noted in a previous article , obtain a driver's license and FIMO to transport people in France is a relatively long process, and very expensive.

I'll try to put you on the track various funding opportunities that famous license. In any case, know that it will not be easy and it will take you to be patient!

First, know that if you are employed, you may be entitled to leave for individual training and funding from the Fongecif your area. I invite you to contact it for details.

If you are unemployed, you have several options:
  • Contact centers training (AFPA, AFT-IFTIM, Promotrans, Forget, ...) in your area to find those with currently a budget allocated to them by region or by job Pole in order to train drivers . This happens when demand for labor is felt. When you find a training center in this case, ask them how to register, and again please be patient ... Indeed, places are expensive and candidates are filtered through various selection tests. You will usually pass tests (general knowledge, logic, spatial representation, ...). If successful, you will be invited to an interview with a senior center. You will be asked to perform an EMT if you have not already done so. Often you will also do a test drive on the road (by car or van, of course;)). If all goes well and you're patient, you will be selecton for training, but the wait can last from several months to a year before coming into your training is effective. In addition, funds collected by the center can be canceled at any time ...
  • Contact transportation companies of people in your corner and find one who'll make a promise CDI or CDD least 6 months if you pass the training. In this case, you can get a AFPR (action pre-recruitment training). Then pole-job that will pay your license up to a certain amount. the end of the article, I made a copy and paste from an email sent to me by my own counsel Pole job about AFPR. Contrary to popular belief, this type of promise is not so difficult to find in the transportation community as there is a certain need for manpower. In addition, this system is costing the company nothing, or very little, and assured him of having a new recruit after a defined time. Transport companies that I know love allow 2 to 3 quarters in advance of their hiring drivers.
  • see if there are companies who would be willing to finance your license directly from their pocket. This is often the case for urban transit (bus), which sometimes even have their own training center. Attention on the latter: the procedure for selecting candidates for this type of big business is long, thorough, downright painful (succession of tests and interviews, I will discuss in other articles you can already ... get an idea through this blog which recounts the procedure for urban transport Limoges ). If you are selected you will, in addition to free training, pay and conditions often times more attractive than in the areas of city transportation and tourism.
  • Finally, it is also possible to apply for individual support within the regional training check. The request must be dealt with at the center Employment tangible elements: EMT, validation certified, professional investigation on opportunities. I can not tell you more about this because I have not personally followed this path.
Quick Tip for all your efforts: Always contact the organizations and businesses by telephone or personal meetings, drop the emails because they are generally ignored!

When Does Chicken Broth Expire

Business Project, EMT, etc.. First

As a job seeker when I wanted to reorient myself, I contacted my advisor Pole job to find out what aid and funding were awarded myself to get that damn license. I am fortunate to have an adviser who is indeed a human being of flesh and emotion (real cream) and not a robot dézingueur unemployed! The latter informed me there were different funding opportunities permit (the FIMO), but to qualify, I had to start with "validate my career." How can I validate my career? , I inquired promptly. It's very simple, just make a LMA and confirm your project in an interview with one of our psychologists .
Well!

The MPE (Workplace Assessment) is a short, unpaid internship in a business sector that interests you (in my case, a business of transporting people) in which you have to take share as much as possible life of a professional driver. Specifically, you are accompanying a driver who will be your tutor over the entire service for a few days. Of course, without a license you do not have the opportunity to try to drive, it's only a little inconvenience) As against that you can understand the working conditions and see the advantages and disadvantages especially the art. I find that the LMA is a good way to confirm that the job would suit you, and it allows Pole job to verify that you have at least the basic qualities and motivation to exercise, as the company you make your EMT sends at the end of this report to Pole job. So be careful during your EMT to be punctual, smiling, good presentation, and ask lots of questions. Anyway, if the transport of people you really care, that you will come naturally. Typically, companies assign you a tutor and nice teacher, who you can ask any questions that come to mind. In my case, I made two EMT: from the first urban transport in my city, and the second the periphery in a bus that makes the school of tourism and departmental lines. In this way, I could really see the different aspects of the job: time constraints, different types of customer and vehicle, etc.. Both EMT were each very good experiences in which I discussed with drivers and operations managers friendly and passionate about their work.

Finally to validate my career, I also treated to an interview with a psychologist working Pole job. In my case, it was not particularly difficult or long. It was just my motivation to test and verify that I seemed to really know what I was getting. He then asked me to write in a page where I was in my project and what I intended to follow steps to get there. The paper seemed coherent psychologist who quickly left from me stating they meet again a few months later to see how it evolved. Yes, a few months ... In case you did not yet understand, access to the profession, despite the demand for drivers is a long road!

note, have a career plan seen as consistent with cluster-job does not mean they will rush to pay you a training! To you now begin steps personal to find a formation in which there are seats available and can fit into the framework of a partial or total financing from Pole-job or region. When you are prompted to apply for funding, strictly speaking, we will verify that your file is coherent (having achieved a EMT, etc.). And if so you will be entitled to an aid that I will explain in the next article.

My 13 Year Old Son Babysit By Someone His Age

information on the permit and D FIMO

When I decided to point me to this business, the conduct of passengers, I naively thought it would be enough to make me a driving school, to spend a few hours of practice, and presto! I would have my license in less time than it takes to tell. I had it all wrong.

Indeed, I am living in France since shortly and I do not know when the legal obligations which govern permitting. In my country, that is to say Belgium (we must have quality!) obtain a permit for heavy vehicles is very simple. We must pass the driving theory (the code) suitable for the type of vehicle they wish to drive, then take a little over 8 hours of practice (you read correctly, eight hours) in order to present the practical examination (operations and road). All for a sum roughly equivalent to that would be spent to pass the driving license. It is also possible to follow a course of 8 hours during ADDITIONAL prepare for other exams, the passing of the CAP awards, now mandated by I-don't-know-what-more European Directive for the professional driving heavy. These 8 hours of additional courses are not even required. Indeed, there are manuals, and feel free to submit the review of the CAP if you feel comfortable enough. The EU directive requiring that CAPE pretty cool in Belgium, is the same that is responsible for creating ... the FIMO in France! Si si! Those who know what I mean, you can bring your lower jaw.

For others, I'll explain what and how to get FIMO, and D license course. The following s'applque especially for people aged over 26 years. Younger people may in principle be a CAP, where access is less difficult.

The first step was to get information to understand (Hum. ..) legislation that governed the licensing D in France. For transport person exercised with professional , the permit does not D (plus, compared to the famous directive foo-trick) . Now we must get over the so-called FIMO (Minimum Initial Training Required). FIMO This is not, contrary to what its name suggests, required, eg if you want your 18 kids walk privately in your own bus.

Permit D can be spent in a driving school or a training center specializing in the transportation business (AFT-IFTIM, Forget, Promotrans, ECF ...) and the AFPA. As for the B license, you must pass the code and a practical test (cards, board and road).

The FIMO is a certification obtained at the completion of a review which follows four weeks of courses (140 hours), which can also be monitored in a center for training in transport. These courses focus on traffic safety, defensive driving, economy, etc.. They include a practical and a theoretical part. It's sort of a deepening of what we learn to get the permits "dry" and is usually done just after obtaining the permit.

In total, it takes approximately 7 weeks full-time training to obtain a permit and FIMO.

Once the permit is obtained and the FIMO, you will be required to complete 35 hours of refresher courses every five years.

specify that permits access to D and hence the driving courses are subject to the award of a statutory compulsory medical examination from a licensed physician. The list of approved doctors is available from your local prefecture.

small detail that is important: the cheapest price found so far to pass the driving test D is ~ 2000 € and for FIMO ~ 2500 € ... which means a total of € 4,500 ...

Access the professional drivers transport people to also be done via a professional license which includes D, FIMO and various courses to make you a driver 'complete' ability to prepare an itinerary of have a basis of geography, facing various mechanical problems, etc.. It takes 3 ½ months and cost close to € 8,000 to 10,000.

In both cases, the greenbacks do not push me under the armpits ... So he took me to seek a financing solution ... That's what I tell you the next episode .

Edit: I found a small file that summarizes succinctly nice it is to know about licensure D in France.
