Medical examination for fitness to drive

The validity of a driving license heavy vehicle (transporting goods or persons) is subject to execution by the holder of a regular medical examination from a physician approved by the State to verify his fitness to drive. This inspection must be made prior to licensure and every five years before age 60 years, annually thereafter.

As part of my recruitment to the TC in my town, so I myself spent the visit for the first time last week. I'll explain to you what the doctor it verifies. In my case, it went very well. I'll allow myself a little aside for future drivers who have a particular problem in his eyes squinting , and who may see the medical reason for this. (The others, you can release here). Being myself suffering from a slight divergent squint of an eye, I'll tell you my story. Since this was reported strabismus in my childhood I was always told there was only one way to fix it: the surgery ... that would work half the time. Apart this defect "aesthetic" my view is correct for each of my eyes, but for several months knowing that I had to get this medical fitness, I was foolishly worried that I might fail because of this eye squinting. After some discussions about it with friends, I learned about discipline apparently fairly recently called orthoptics . It's sort of physio eye, that corrects some of strabismus and other disorders using eye movements to be performed. Strabismus is the result of underdevelopment of muscles used to move the eyes, orthoptic exercises allow them to work and so the "muscle". This in turn corrects strabismus. It is sometimes said that such exercises do not work in children. However, I have met adults for whom this method worked. So I too started a few months ago to make such exercises and ... Miraculously, it works! My eyes squint fishy indeed less frequently and less strong than before, especially if I feel that I can deliver it consciously bring it back up (actually I am "forced to squint" in the opposite direction and hop He is recovering and remains in the right position).

I specify that all strabismus are not identical: some cause particular complications: amblyopia, loss of 3D vision: you see with your eye doctor or directly from an Orthoptist if scéances of orthoptics can help.

To return to the Medical Fitness: if correct vision and seen what is checked during the visit, I do not think a divergent strabismus can be disadvantageous. However, the width of the field vision being checked, I wonder when people with a convergent squint (one eye squinting inward). The width of the visual field, would it not reduced in this case?

The last step: the driving test

I'm a little embarrassed to make a mistake as a young driver but the head tells me it does not matter, he wants especially to see if I am conscious of the template, security and traffic. No worries on that side, and it is true that forgetting the anemic engine, I feel very comfortable doing. The manager will even tell me "it looks like you drove it all your life". I'll take that as a compliment and finish the test with banana ears. It brings

the vehicle at the depot and the manager asks me to reverse park in a place perpendicular ... at first I'm puzzled because I knew there would be a small maneuver to perform ... but in fact I realized without problems: in 10 seconds, and super right the first time! I tell myself that I really can not bowl. In fact, those who have already made heavy vehicles know: have good retro, it's only half the job of fact.

In conclusion, all that day I went home without knowing if I was convinced during the talks of the previous hours, as I was certain to have downstream of the operations manager for my selection. However, with hindsight I think this test was rather pushed. The moral of all these tests is that recruitment is really not easy to get into large enterprises. Three weeks after the phone call, that is to say, five weeks after this last series of tests and interviews, I finally received a fat envelope of the training center chosen by the company, with all information practices.

We begin the 15/11 (6 months after initial contact with the company). There is a folder and of course the complete document for medical fitness. To this end, I go to the doctor Monday approved. In principle I am in perfect health but I hope not to be penalized by my slight squint ...

Second interview the day after marathon

maintenance with two counts of Group I was led to meet a human resources manager. Here the interview was much more classical and more standard tone: neither nice nor disagreeable just professional and courteous.

During this conversation, no trap or psychological dirty trick (or I did not see that fire!). It is limited to the list of typical questions ... but did not miss any: qualities, defects, motivation, how I imagine the job, I am aware of the constraints, is what I know now where I see myself in 10 years, compensation proposed suitable for me, etc. . Some have even asked several times with different formulations, but otherwise it never deviates from the canvas "classic". The head leaves me happy to move certain parts of the interview, we come to discuss specifically enough for the operation of the enterprise, gives citizens the management contract by the city and the renewal thereof, etc.. So there is a desire that the interview is like a real dialogue, so I do not see the time passing: we left after 1:20, which is not short.

Ultimately it was a traditional but relatively maintenance of a high level: the questions were chained fast enough and it apparently expected I answer that as a lawyer at the helm. So it was again important to feel comfortable in their shoes, otherwise be intimidated. Quite honestly, I probably would not be able to get out if I had been a few years younger and inexperienced job interviews ... Moreover, it does not seem to me that there are many VC less than 30 years in this business ...
